Wadea Al-Fayome, a 6-year-old boy living in Plainfield, Illinois, met a tragic end when he was killed by the family’s landlord, Joseph M. Fayome.

The shocking violence also left Wadea’s mother Hanan Shahin, 32, with more than a dozen stab wounds, preventing her from attending her son’s funeral.

The boy’s parents are from a West Coast village and immigrated to the United States years ago.

Wadea was born in the United States, a tragedy that has shocked and saddened the nation.
The accused, Joseph M. Czuba, aged 71, faces serious charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of a hate crime, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. While Czuba did not provide a statement to detectives, it has been determined that the victims were targeted due to their Muslim identity and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict.

At his initial court appearance in Joliet, Illinois, Czuba appointed a public defender to represent him. Despite his attorney’s assertion of no prior convictions, the judge ordered that Czuba be held without bond, pending a preliminary hearing on October 30.
