In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Washington County Circuit Court has lost one of its most cherished figures. Judge Andrew Wilkinson, a pillar of the community, was tragically taken from us in a fatal shooting. The devastating incident has sent shockwaves through our justice system and our hearts.
Larry Hogan, former Maryland Governor and the one who appointed Judge Wilkinson to the bench, took to Twitter to express his deep sorrow and concern. His words encapsulate the profound impact of this loss: “This act of horrific violence not only takes away a respected community figure but also shakes the foundation of our justice system.”
The sense of loss is particularly acute because Judge Wilkinson had only been sworn in on January 10, 2020, promising a bright future of justice and fairness for our community.
A Heartfelt Message from Larry Hogan
Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan posted on social media, sharing his heartfelt response to the loss of Judge Wilkinson. In his words, the violence that claimed the judge’s life not only robbed us of a respected figure but also struck at the very core of our justice system. This tragic event has left an indelible mark on our hearts and our community.
The Connection to Pedro Argote
The individual sought in connection with the shooting death of Judge Wilkinson had been part of a divorce case, the sole matter on the day’s court docket. In a heart-wrenching twist of fate, Judge Wilkinson signed an order just hours before his own tragic demise. This order stated that there was to be no visitation or contact between Pedro Argote and his children, as well as no contact between Argote and the children’s mother.
The judgment also granted the mother sole use and possession of the family home, located west of Hagerstown, and prohibited Argote from entering the property. Furthermore, Argote was ordered to pay the mother $1,120 a month in child support for their four minor children.
Maryland Judiciary Mourns
The Maryland Judiciary issued a statement on the sorrowful passing of Judge Wilkinson. Their message is both poignant and heartfelt: “The Maryland Judiciary mourns the tragic death of Judge Andrew Wilkinson. As we grieve his loss, we ask that you keep the Wilkinson family in your prayers and please respect their privacy.”
The Maryland Judiciary is actively collaborating with law enforcement to assist in resolving this matter and ensuring the safety of our judges, staff, and visitors, which remains our top priority.
The Hunt for Pedro Argote
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has released the name and description of the man suspected in the shooting death of Judge Wilkinson. Pedro Argote, 49, is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a silver 2009 Mercedes GL450, displaying Maryland registration plates 4EH0408.
