Blanca

Blanca, the esteemed tasting-menu restaurant nestled adjacent to Roberta’s in Bushwick, is set to close its doors after service on April 12, 2025. Chef Victoria Blamey shared the unexpected news on Instagram, citing the landlord’s decision not to renew the lease as the reason for the closure.

Established in 2012 by Roberta’s co-founders Carlo Mirarchi and Brandon Hoy, Blanca quickly garnered acclaim for its innovative approach to fine dining. The intimate setting, characterized by eclectic murals and a focus on vinyl records, offered an expansive tasting menu that initially featured up to 27 courses.

Chef Blamey took the helm in late 2023, bringing her unique culinary vision influenced by her Chilean heritage and experience in avant-garde kitchens such as Mugaritz and Corton. Her tenure at Blanca was marked by inventive dishes like crab empanadas infused with fermented black beans, ají dulce peppers, and a hint of Chartreuse. Under her leadership, Blanca became a favorite of former New York Times critic Pete Wells.

Despite its critical success, including a three-star review from the New York Times in 2015, Blanca faced challenges in securing a Michelin star during Blamey’s tenure, a point of contention among its patrons and culinary enthusiasts.

As Blanca prepares for its final service, the New York dining community reflects on the restaurant’s significant contributions to the city’s gastronomic landscape. Chef Blamey has hinted at exploring opportunities beyond New York, leaving followers eager to see where her culinary journey will lead next
